Mariadela Araujo is a Venezuelan artist, weaver and fashion designer based in Barcelona. Her love for textiles originated at a young age in her home city of Caracas and has since been her professional career for more than a decade. She was formally trained as a fashion designer in Rome and as a weaver in Barcelona. Her work is often interdisciplinary, focusing on several disciplines: weaving, installation art and interior design all of which inform her tapestry work and teaching philosophy today. Currently, she owns and runs Paella Studio an experimental textile atelier and laboratory. Her work has been featured in numerous publications, exhibitions and fashion runways across the world including Italy, Finland, Spain, Germany and Venezuela. She teaches hundreds of students with her relaxed, patient and exploratory teaching style.
Paella Studio aims to tell a visual story based in a bespoke traditional craftsmanship with contemporary aesthetics. Its bold shapes and bright colours juxtaposes a Caribbean nuance palette with that of European codes of design.
